Project: Assessment of the aquaculture value chains of Jamaica incorporating sensitivity to climate change
- Objectives
- Key activities
- Project outputs
- Assess two aquaculture value chains in Jamaica using a climate sensitive network approach
- Assess the plans and programmes from the National Fisheries Authority and their potential impact on the development of the aquaculture value chain
- Characterize two Aquaculture Value Chains, in terms of their critical components: actors, resources, and activities
- Examine climate hazards affecting the locations where value chain operations take place.
- Define climate sensitivities along each value chain tier, accounting for the different characteristics and needs of different types of assets, resources, and activities along the value chain and the proneness to damage of value chain operations to climate phenomena; and identify key adaptation barriers and opportunities along each value chain.
- Define the level of alignment of current aquaculture plans and programs with the adaptation needs of the value chains and determine if they fully address direct, indirect, and transboundary climate risks.
- Assessment Report of the Aquaculture Value Chains Incorporating Sensitivity to Climate Change
- Assessment report of adaptation challenges, opportunities, and NFA’s policy and Aquaculture Strategy objectives incidence along the tilapia and ornamental value chain
- Recommendations for policy and plans development designed to better support the climate-resilient development of the aquaculture sector, including:
- How to mainstream climate change considerations into aquaculture management plans, and in support of the implementation of the Fisheries bill
- How to strengthen training and capacity building in the sector
- How to strengthen partnerships and collaboration
- Two validation workshops of the methodological framework and results with stakeholders in the industry
